It's that time of year!!! With Christmas being around the corner, many people are preparing for holiday festivities. Lots of shopping is happening, holiday décor is a focus and some are making safe travel plans to visit friends and family.
As we know there may be plenty of reasons to celebrate, there are even more reasons to be grateful. The year 2020 has shown us in many ways that life is too precious to not enjoy and that we must make the most of what we have.
So what do we have? I'm glad you asked. Many would respond by listing tangible things such as their homes, cars and clothing. Others gain esteem from their accolades, status and popularity. Some would even say they have family, friends and good health. As all of those are great to acknowledge and appreciate, knowing we have a Savior is the best thing we've received.
I once discovered that if I did not know I had $1 million dollars, I would never be excited about it. Some people have family and friends that love them, careers, connections and so much more, but do not realize how valuable they are because they have lost sight of what is important. Interestingly, many find themselves stressed out during this time of year because instead of worshipping and celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ, they worship the commercialized version of Christmas. I've unfortunately experienced this as well in the past. Once I realized the true meaning of Christmas, the holiday season became more peaceful rather than problematic.
If we do not know we have a savior, we are powerless. Because of Him, we have access to the kingdom! We also have the Holy Spirit that dwells within us. Many people focus on what they don't have, rather than activating the power that's accessible to them.
Due to the pandemic, this year's Christmas may not look like the "perfect" one we are accustomed to- and neither do our Christmas Tree-ats. ;) But an imperfect situation has placed us in the position this year to celebrate a perfect Savior, Jesus Christ, and that's all that matters.
This holiday season, honor our Savior, cherish the time you have with those you can safely be around and create memories. Remember, it's the little things that count.
Happy Holidays and enJOY!
